So you want to program on a mainframe. Well, while it's not easy, the jobs in this field will continue to grow as the current workforce continues to retire. The trick for those wanting to get into this market is to learn how to read and maintain legacy code, frameworks, concepts and learn how to integrate the old with newer solutions.

Mainframes are used mostly by large companies and governments. While they've invested in this technology for many decades, they recognize the problem of a shrinking workforce.

Frankly, most young programmers don't know much about Mainframe technologies and feel more secure in web based apps. While the non-mainframe technologies are sexier and growing, large companies still need to maintain their investments. Over time, mainframe salaries will outpace other jobs and the few programmers who are fluent in mainframe and non-mainframe technologies will be in high demand. As a programmer, do you want sexy or CASH?

Mainframe technologist are not blind to the future of their platform. IBM and others have adapted their products to integrate with newer technologies. Mainframes run Unix services, J2EE compliant Application Server and have open-architectures using Web, Messaging and Data Base interfaces.

This site focuses on providing an environment to learn the legacy stuff. No one else does it at our costs. Give it a try. What do you have to lose?
